Summary

The Policy and Advocacy Manager will support the Child Care Action Council’s effort to build a high quality child care system with well qualified staff that are representative of the children in care. The position will work closely with Child Care Aware of Washington (CCA of WA) staff to carry out a state-wide universal access/living wages campaign for workers in the child care and early learning industry.

Office Location: Olympia, WA
Status:  Non-Exempt, 40 hours per week.

Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
1. Coalition Building, Retention, and Mobilization
 
· Building and Maintaining Regional Provider and Regional Parent Mobilization Cohorts:
o Recruit and retain diverse groups of childcare providers and parents who have compelling child care stories to support state advocacy work in Regional Advocacy Cohorts.
o Coordinate with the CCA of WA for cohort messaging and training(s).
o Support Regional Cohorts by providing advocacy training, story collection, organizing legislator meetings, attending meetings alongside cohort members if needed.
· Contract Deliverable Tracking:
o Tracking these respective cohorts with regards to their attendance, trainings received, and stories collected, and advocacy actions undertaken each month.
· Lead regional training in advocacy fundamentals and culturally responsive engagement.
 
 
2. Advocacy, Organizing, and Mobilization Support
· Develop and execute regional advocacy plans in partnership with CCA leadership, coordinating office advocacy staff and regional advocacy leads.
· Coordinate regional outreach both digital and in-person to engage families, providers and community leaders as champions of early learning.
· Coordinate community listening sessions, compile family and provider input and inform the coordinating office of regional priorities.
 
3. Strategic Partnerships and Engagement
· Represent the Child Care for Washington Campaign at regional coalitions, advisory tables, elected official meetings, and public forums.
· Support regional collaborators, statewide partnerships and CCA of WA in successfully advocating for early care and education initiatives via presentations, toolkits, talking points, media outreach and cohort building.
 
4. Additional Support and Responsibilities:
· Collaborate closely with CCA of WA advocacy team regarding media, communications, policy, and outreach to ensure consistent messaging and amplification.
· Support and attend the annual Child Care for WA advocacy day in Olympia during legislative session.

Requirements

· Experience mobilizing advocates and communities to build community-driven movements.
· Strong group facilitation skills.
· Comfort working in a team environment and coordinating with a variety of stakeholders that include community advocates with lived experiences, community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, elected officials, agency leaders and news media.
· Demonstrate ability to center and advocate through the lens of racial equity, gender equity, and social justice.
· Experience with engaging and supporting oppressed communities and populations with the goal of empowering their voice. Possess a collaborative style with respect for diversity.
· Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including remote communication skills and demonstrated experience working with the public.
